Visibility

In addition to the convex surface of this lens, it has also been designed with anti-glare technology, as noted. However, in shaded areas, this anti-glare property can be somewhat of a detriment.

Visibility

In addition to the fact that this is going to remain stable while you are riding, the viewing angle you are provided with is perfect. Seeing traffic and obstacles behind you will be very easy.

Durability

Even though the included Velcro strap is pretty weak overall, the central core of this mirror is made with carbon composite. Oh, and the glass is panoramic, as well.

Ease of Use

What is nice is to adjust this mirror you will not need to remove it from your handlebar. Instead, you merely loosen it and tighten it afterward.

Compatibility

What you need to know is that this is not going to work with flat handlebars. So, for those who need such a bar end mirror, you will want to look in other directions.

Features

Overall

Even in spite of the few design limitations, this remains the elite. That says a lot right there. Then again, it is also one of the more lofty options in terms of its price.

Pros:

It can be adjusted 360 degrees

The frame is foldable

It is built to last

Cons:

The optics are wavy

It can be bumped off a little too easily

Making this one of the most unique handlebar mirrors is the fact that it is designed with a stainless steel lens. Of course, the optics are a bit wavy which may not be the best for some of you.

Visibility

As noted, the optics are a bit wavy and the reason is due to the convex nature of the mirror. Of course, this also provides a wider viewing angle which is a bonus.

Durability

As compared to other models, this is superb in this area. This is thanks to the nylon fiber frame and the stainless steel lens (as opposed to a traditional glass lens).

Ease of Use

While mounting this rearview mirror on your handlebar is going to be easy, this mirror is also a little too easy to knock out of alignment.

Compatibility

Granted your handlebar’s diameter is within 17 to 21 millimeters in size, this is going to work. And, for the record, this will work well with both flat and drop handlebars.

Features

In addition to the fact that this can be adjusted 360 degrees, it can be mounted on the left or right side of your handlebar. Also, the frame is foldable for portability reasons.

Overall

To say that this design is unique is a vast understatement. However, some of you will prefer the vision you receive from traditional glass lenses.

There really is so much to like about this model. In addition to the fact that it will secure to your bike easily and solidly, it is also an affordable design too.

Visibility

Yes, this is a bit small and will not be considered oversized by anyone. However, this smaller nature does not affect this mirror’s ability to allow you to see behind you.

Durability

There have been some previous reviewers who have noted that they were worried that the rubber strap attachment would not last. Of course, the unbreakable chrome-plated plastic holds up reasonably well.

Ease of Use

No tools are going to be required for you to mount this mirror on your bicycle. Better yet is the fact that it is ideal for several different handlebars out there.

Compatibility

This will fit 22 to 66-millimeter-sized handlebars. You can see why it is compatible with such a broad range of handlebars out there.

Features

The pull and release functionality of this design is, by far its most significant feature. This is the primary reason why mounting and dismounting are so simple.

Overall

The leading cause of concern here is the rubber strap attachment. As a total design, however, this is user-friendly and effective at what it is supposed to do.

Durability

Past the main construction that is really durable, this is also equipped with tight fittings. This combination makes for a very solid and reliable design.

Ease of Use

The wrench that you need to use to install this on your handlebar is included, which is nice. However, some previous reviewers have noted that they struggled a little bit to mount this.

Compatibility

While this is not going to attach to all handlebar sizes, it will fit inside handlebars that have interior diameters between 15.2 and 23.4 millimeters.

Features

Because this is adjustable to any viewing angle, it makes things much easier for you. You are in total control, which is a very nice feature.

Overall

Though installing this rearview bicycle mirror can be somewhat troublesome (according to previous users) its viewing angle is terrific and it is not going to break very easily.

Cons:

It could have been a more stable design

Visibility

There are left and right options available, for the record. As for the visibility of the mirror itself, the presented image will not be distorted or fish-eyed so that is nice.

Durability

The mainframe of this model is durable as is the glass itself. One of the reasons why is the utilized glass has been equipped with a scratch-resistant coating.

Ease of Use

Finding the perfect balance between too loose and too tight can be quite a challenge with this mounting system. It is possible, though, as you will just need a bit of patience.

Compatibility

As with other bar end mirrors for bicycles, this is not going to fit inside all handlebar sizes. If your bars are too big then you may end up having to jam this thing in.

Features

One of the best aspects of fully adjustable designs, such as this, is that you can really control what you want to see.

Overall

There may not be anything flashy or special about this model but it most certainly gets the job done. And, after all, all you can really ask for is enhanced vision while you are biking.

Some of you may be looking to have bar end mirrors mounted to both sides of your handlebar. If that sounds like you then you should definitely check this option out.

Visibility

Not only do you get two rearview mirrors with your purchase, but each of them is equipped with a more extended arm. This makes it much easier to view what is behind you while you are biking.

Durability

The combination of the ABS optical frame and aluminum alloy hardware deliver peace of mind for you. Let’s say that there is no reason to worry about the durability here.

Ease of Use

Both the install process and the actual process of adjusting this mirror are relatively straight-forward. Most of you will not struggle in this department.

Compatibility

Previous users have made others aware that the joint stem is too thick and the threads are too short. This is somewhat of a design flaw that you will need to workaround.

Features

This is yet another model that is optimized to adjust 360 degrees. Once again, this is going to deliver more comfortable viewing angles for you.

Overall

The value is what makes this option worth it, quite frankly. Though some buyers have had installation problems with these bar end bicycle mirrors, once on, you will be good to go.

Pros:

It provides good visibility behind you

Well-made and sturdy

Pivots to any viewing angle

Cons:

Each axes requires different hardware

The screw threads do not seem to be ideally compatible with the nut threads

Mirrycle has made some of the most reliable bar end mirrors for bicycles out there and this is one of them. Though it is small, it provides pretty good visibility.

Visibility

Yes, indeed, this is somewhat of a small bar end mirror. For its size (three inches), it provides an acceptable field of view, however. The convex shape of it also helps.

Durability

Based on previous experiences from other users, it seems as if this mirror is well-built. Even if it takes a fall or two, it is not likely going to break.

Ease of Use

A bit of a nuisance with this design is the fact that all three axes of movement utilize different hardware. This, honestly, just makes the installation process more annoying than it should be. Also, many users had issues with the included screws fitting correctly.

Compatibility

Granted you have a handlebar with an inside diameter that falls somewhere in the range between 13.75 to 22.5 inches, you will be good to go to mount this mirror.

Features

This is yet another model that has been engineered to adjust to any viewing angle. Again, though, as noted before, each ax will require different hardware.

Overall

Looking past the installation issues that can persist, this is a great bicycle rearview mirror once it is installed. Your patience level is really going to determine if you have any interest in this option.

Cons:

In spite of the fact that these bar end mirrors for bicycles are a bit on the small side, they are fully adjustable and can be installed without tools.

Visibility

With two bar end mirrors provided to you, you can mount one on each side of your handlebar. However, these are a bit smaller than what some of you will prefer.

Durability

Thanks to the fact that the mounting bracket is a silicone rubber belt, it should last for quite a while.

Ease of Use

No tools are needed to mount these rearview mirrors on your handlebar but the shape of the grips does make things a little harder than they should be, admittedly.

Compatibility

As long as you know that your current bike handlebar has an interior diameter somewhere between 25 to 55 millimeters then these are going to be compatible for you.

Features

Both of these suckers can adjust 360 degrees. Talk about a lot of coverage, this is about as good as it gets.

Overall

This is an excellent value or budget option to go with. You are provided with two competent mirrors for a really good price.

Pros:

The field of view is pretty good

There are no clamps or external bolts to deal with

It will work for most handlebars

Cons:

The rubber stops can strip if you are not careful

The concept of this bicycle mirror is priceless but the execution could have been a little better. It still landed on this list and that means that it is worthy of your time and money.

Visibility

What you need to know is that this option utilizes a flat mirror instead of a convex one. This flat mirror will allow you to accurately judge how far away an object is.

Durability

There have been a few reviewers who have reported that the rubber stops on this mirror stripped out. When you go dismount this from your handlebar, be cautious of this.

Ease of Use

No external bolts or clamps are built into this design. All you need to do is insert it and turn it until the rubber stops. Of course, it can be somewhat of a struggle to actually insert it.

Compatibility

Granted your bar ends on your bike clamp onto your handlebar, this will fit just fine. Then again, this is designed to fit into smaller-sized handlebars.

Features

If this were more stable on the road then it would have landed higher on this list. If you ride on rougher terrain then this could be an issue for you.

Overall

You can tell that this was set out to be a simple design. And, while it mostly is, problems can arise if you have too large of a handlebar. Still, it will work quite well for the right people.

Criteria Used for Evaluation

Visibility

This type of device is designed to allow you to see behind you so the models you buy should be able to do so, right?

The entire point of mounting mirrors on your bike, in the first place, is to enhance your visibility on the road or on the trails. So, it would then make sense that their visibility would be their most important asset. As such, it also means that this is the most important section for you to pay attention to.

First and foremost, you need to be aware that not all models will work on both the left and right side of your handlebar. While some sellers will sell both left and right models, others will only provide you with one. Once you figure out which side you prefer, you then should look at the size.

While you certainly do not want to buy bar end mirrors for bicycles that are bulky, they need to be large enough for you to adequately see behind you. And, for the record, you want to look at the surface dimensions of the mirror itself to gauge this.

However, what about the shape of the mirror? Indeed, this comes into play and most models will be equipped with convex mirrors. Due to the wider field of views that are provided by such mirrors, they are popular when it comes to automobiles and bikes.

And, lastly, some models will sport anti-reflective coatings. While this is not a mandatory feature, such coatings can help to cut down light reflections and overall glaring.

Durability

It will be in your best interest to buy bicycle mirrors that will actually last a while.

It seems pretty obvious to say, but we are going to tell it anyway. Make it a priority to buy bar end mirrors for bicycles that are built well. Boy, that is not utterly obvious. All joking aside, let’s talk about some of the areas you can focus on here.

For starters, you should assess the design of the mainframe. Most models will not be made with steel frames or anything like that but should be made with high-quality materials. Some frames will be made with high-impact nylon fiber or even high-quality composite material.

In addition to this, the lens itself should be somewhat durable. While glass is the more popular of the two materials, stainless steel lenses do exist and can provide enhanced durability. Reasonably enough, though, some of you will prefer the traditional makeup of glass lenses.

Of course, always remember that it is never a bad idea to glance through user feedback. See what other buyers have had to say about a particular option and gauge the durability in that manner.

Ease of Use

Most models will be pretty easy to install but that does not mean that they all will.

The good news is there will not be too many bar end mirrors for bicycles that are too tricky to install. Of course, this is granted the model is compatible with your bike handlebar and built with hardware that matches up.

Even the most “complex” of models will still only require a basic Allen wrench to install. And, even if such a wrench is not provided to you, you probably have one lying around your toolbox somewhere. Either way, such models are still only going to require fundamental handyman skills.

Then again, there are some options out there that will require no tools for installation. These bicycle rearview mirror models will typically need to be inserted into your bike’s handlebar and twisted until it secures tightly.

However, you will also come across bar end mirrors for bicycles that require a bit more patience. Some models will be adjustable in different manners. While this is nice, you may then be necessary to loosen and tighten different hardware.

Not all models out there will implement this type of design. And, even if they do, the actual tightening and loosening of the hardware are not going to be challenging.

Compatibility

Without question, you need to make sure that your handlebars are compatible.

If you take nothing else away from this guide, then at least understand this. Not all bar end mirrors for bicycles are going to work for all bike handlebars. Though it would be nice if each model were universal, that is not the case. So, it becomes vital for you to pay attention to the details.

First and foremost, do you have flat or drop handlebars? This matters because some bar-end mirrors will only work for one of the two types of handlebars. Sure, there are designs out there that will be compatible with both, but you can’t take the chance of just assuming that the option you pick will be.

Secondly, you need to ensure that the size of your handlebar will be compatible. Most manufacturers will provide you with a range at which their bar end mirrors will work. For the record, this range is going to be the interior diameter of compatible handlebars. Unless, of course, the mirror clamps onto your handlebar as then it will be the outside diameter.

There is usually some room for error, though, if your handlebar is too large. You can always use your imagination to fasten the mirror securely. Then again, if your handlebar is too small, then you are pretty much screwed.

Features

The main feature to look out for here is if the bicycle mirror model you buy is adjustable.

There are not a ton of features that you will need to look for when buying bar end mirrors for bicycles. With that said, there is one significant one, so let’s talk about that for a hot second. No matter which model you go with, it will be in your interest to look for flexible options.

The good news is most bicycle mirror models on the market will not be fixed to one position. Specific options will allow you to adjust the angle to suit your preferences better slightly. However, the best options will allow you to change them a full 360 degrees.

While it seems unnecessary to allow for 360-degree adjustability, it vastly increases the safety index of the mirror. Having the ability to adjust the mirror to any direction you want will let you see whatever you want. It is a functionality that most of you will covet.

Visibility

It is safe to assume that many of you will not be interested in buying a bar end mirror that does not produce the visibility that you desire. Would you call that a fair statement? What this means is you will need to understand what to look for to ensure that you can see the traffic, objects, etc. that are behind you. In this section, we talk about just that.

Durability

Accidents happen, and there is always a possibility that your mirror will fall from your handlebar and crash to the ground. Given this will not be a substantial fall, though, the mirror should be able to take it. But, if the model you buy is made with cheap plastic and cheap materials, overall it may not respond quite well to accidental damage.

Ease of Use

For the most part, bar end mirrors for bicycles are not going to be too complicated to wrap your head around. Most of them will need to be inserted into either end of your bike’s handlebar. However, some models will require multiple pieces of hardware to be used for the adjustment process. Admittedly, this can make things a bit more annoying than they need to be.

Frequently Asked Questions

q: Why do you need them?

a:

Bike mirrors are not going to be mandatory for everyone. You could go your entire life without ever installing them on your bike. But, to provide you with a sense of safety and security, it is recommended to do so.

This is especially true if you commute on your bike often. And, if you do so in heavily populated areas, then you should really consider bike mirrors. Much like in a vehicle, they allow you to see exactly what is behind you without physically turning your body around.

q: Do you have to cut a hole in your handlebar?

a:

It all depends on the rearview mirrors that you buy and the design of your bike’s handlebar. If you buy bicycle mirrors that need to be installed inside of them (which is likely), then holes will be required on the outside.

However, if you have a handlebar that does not have open ends, then you will need to cut a hole inside of them (the grips that are). This is a feasible option and is not going to affect the integrity of the holds in any way.

q: How do you keep them from moving all over the place?

a:

It is worth pointing out that specific bar end mirrors for bicycles will be quite finicky in how much they move around when you hit bumps and such. But, to ensure that they are as secure as they can be, you need to ensure that the hardware is as tight as it can go.

While you do not want to strip any screws, you do need to ensure that they are as tight as they can go. Just do not overtighten them and you should be good to go.

q: Will the objects be “closer than they appear”?

a:

When you look in a mirror, you often see a label that claims “objects are closer than they appear.” Well, is this going to be an “issue” with bicycle bar-end mirrors, as well? It all comes down to the curvature of the mirror itself. When it is convex (or has a slight angle to it), then the images you see will be closer than they appear.

This is not the case with a plane or flat mirrors. These will project real or virtual images. In other words, the photos will be the same size as the actual objects.

q: Can they easily be dismounted when not needed?

a:

There will probably come some times where you do not want any bar-end mirrors installed on your bike. Though they are practical, they can become a nuisance if you do not need them. The reason is some of them can limit the handlebar space you have (for your hands).

Thankfully, just as they are pretty easy to mount, they are also pretty simple to dismount. You reverse the process of what you did to install them. From there, you can store them in a safe location where they will not be prone to accidental damage.

q: What about weight?

a:

Weight has not been discussed thus far in this buying guide. It seems odd as many bike enthusiasts often hold weight as one of the most coveted characteristics of any accessory. It is just something you will generally not need to worry about here, though.

Most bar end mirrors for bicycles will be relatively lightweight in their designs. Most will only weigh a couple of ounces. Unless you need to save every ounce, do not worry about this too much.
