Are you the kind of person who people turn to when things break? Or, perhaps you’re the kind of person who breaks things and likes to mend them before anyone notices but can’t get away with carrying around a full toolkit because that’d just be suspicious. If you’re either of them (I’m the latter), then the True Utility Fixr could be a neat little stocking filler for yourself this Christmas.
True Utility – makers of the FIXR – are masters of small things, and they’ve packed 14 different tools in to this device which is about the same size as my car key.
It contains, within it’s tiny form:
1. Quick Release Clip, so you can nonchalantly pop it on your belt loop
2. Bottle Opener, because 99% of its life will be spent doing just that
3. Nail Cleaner, for those who don’t like to take home the day’s grime
4. Large Flat Screwdriver
5. Medium Flat Screwdriver
6. Small Flat Eyeglass Screwdriver
7. Medium Phillips Screwdriver
8. Small Phillips Screwdriver
9. 14mm Spanner/Wrench
10. 12mm Spanner/Wrench
11. 10mm Spanner/Wrench
12. 8mm Spanner/Wrench
13. 6mm Spanner/Wrench
14. Bicycle Spoke Wrench
15. Razor Sharp Cutting Blade
16. Wire Stripper
17. Measuring Ruler
18. Box Opener
19. Pry Bar
The Phillips screwdrivers look a bit odd (because they’re flattened), but after some initial trepidation they work pretty well on everything but the tightest screws. And, actually, everything else on the device works pretty well too. The weakest link is possibly the cutter, which is a little fiddly to use. But, the flip-side of that is that it is housed pointing inwards, can’t possibly be used as a weapon, and you probably won’t lose it to security at an airport.
The FIXR comes with a little leather pouch so it doesn’t scratch your keys/phone/leg/car… Although, if you’re anything like me, you’ll discard that pouch so you can play idly with the ball-bearing mounted spinning golden part for hours on end at your desk. It’s a true pleasure.
