These shoes are great ‘country mooching’ shoes – perfect for walking over uneven terrain, through long wet grass, and great on Tarmac too. The pillow-like comfort and waterproofness is a great combination, and they look smart with jeans, so you don’t look like you’ve dressed for the Himalayas when you’re wandering around National Trust gardens and the like.

Teva – Crank Mid shoes

Now, there’s something to be said for a shoe which doesn’t provide a huge amount of support. Teva say that they’ve integrated a Mush insole (moulded for comfort) but the feel of the Crank is minimalist in terms of snugging your foot and the result is a natural feeling walk. They’re all-day comfortable and to my mind would be as good at being a travel shoe as they would be a biking shoe… if you don’t mind the looks.

Teva – Sky Lake Mid eVent Women’s Walking Boots

Interestingly one of the selling points on their site is that they have specifically built these boots with women’s feet in mind, i.e. they are not simply scaled down men’s boots. So I think its important to say try before you buy as what doesn’t work for me might be perfect for you. The eVent waterproofing is very good – the boots have stood up to some pretty horrid downpours and if that wasn’t enough I also stuck them in a puddle to make doubly sure. Somehow in my wee brain a boot made of mostly mesh can’t be waterproof – well these most definitely are!
