Technical tent manufacturer, Robens, has introduced two new two-person tents to its Lite range – each provides the occupant the luxury and versatility of their own porch and entrance.
The new tents are the 2.72kg Merlin (pictured above) and the 2.98kg Kestrel, both can be pitched outer first or as one. The outers are made from super strong HydroTex LT ? a 40D ripstop nylon that is unique to Robens. This fabric has a silicone outer treatment and PU inner coating with taped seams to give a high UV resistance and a weather-beating 3,000mm hydrostatic head, complementing the tough 75D polyester Taffeta groundsheet that has a 10,000mm hydrostatic head.
Anodised DAC aluminium alloy poles are used to keep the pack weight down while maintaining the tent’s strength and stability. The Merlin has a single hoop design that uses a hub each side to connect two lower poles with the main hoop to increase inner tent space and help create vent protection. It also features an apex cross pole to extend the headroom into the porch areas.
The Kestrel (pictured above) also has an apex cross pole to extend the headroom, but uses two main cross poles in a dome style. These are pre-angled to increase useable height and width in the inner tent at the head and shoulders.
Pitching is made easy through the use of Twist Clip Hook attachment of poles to flysheet and Quick Set guylines for rapid placement and adjustment. The tents are kept stable in poor weather conditions by the Robens Storm Guard guy line system that connects outer to poles to pegs.
Both tents feature a useful gear rope and storage pockets to help dry clothes and organise your gear. The inner doors fold into side pockets to keep them tidy and safe from damage. Each inner door has a mesh panel to repel insects. Two way zip and apex vents help control and remove condensation.
The Merlin packs down into a 44cm x 16cm roll-top bag for convenient storage and transportation, while the Kestrel packed size is 42cm x 17cm.
