Osprey Kids Koby 20 Daypack

osprey backJasmine, our 9 year old daughter, has been asked to test out this 20 litre Osprey daypack so taking that duty seriously she has been using it for school every day and has fallen in love with it, especially the colour.  It’s listed as ‘Playful Purple’ on the Osprey website (also available in black & ‘bravo blue’) and it’s certainly bright enough to be noticed, whilst the yellow interior panel makes it easier to see what’s stashed inside.

At 20 litres it certainly holds plenty, including an A4 sized folder that she takes to school every day. The interior yellow highlight is also picked out on the straps and the storm flaps that cover the zips.

It feels extremely sturdy and well-built although it’s not heavy at all, which is ideal for the age it’s intended for. The straps are very comfy and easy to adjust and it also has a chest strap to even out the load which makes wearing the bag extremely comfortable. There is also a very sturdy, reinforced grab handle on the top of the bag which is comfy to use. It’s nice to see that the bag also has reflective detailing incorporated into the graphics and there is one particular feature I thought was an excellent idea – a loop on the outside of the bag at the back where you can attach an LED bike light.

One thing I noticed about the bag as soon as I saw it were the unusual zip toggles it has and after using them I quickly realised how easy they are to use. Instead of being a flat piece of metal or plastic that you have to grip tightly, they have a loop of nylon cord which has a pre-formed plastic curved section that you can easily hook with your finger. It’s a brilliant design that makes them so much easier to use, especially for smaller hands. In fact I’d even go as far to say they are a joy to use!

There are lots of useful pockets, some with zips, some with elastic and all of them in just right place and the right dimensions for the size of the bag. Jasmine certainly manages to pack plenty into it and it’s all accessible. As I said, she uses it for school every day but it’s also ideal for weekends away, having enough space to fit a couple of changes of clothes, the usual bits and pieces that 9 year old girls take with them, and of course her teddy!

Our whole family likes it and even though it’s been used every day it still looks as good as new. Nothing has broken, fallen off, frayed or even begun to show signs of wear and all the zips still work perfectly. Overall we’re extremely impressed,so it’s no surprise that Jasmine awarded an easy 10 out of 10 for this fantastic, tough little bag.
