I have a theory that these shoes are going to garner a similar reaction to Marmite, you’ll ether love them or hate them. From the moment I stepped onto Keen’s stand at last weeks Outdoor show, I was most definitely the former – I think they are awesome. (I also love Marmite, so make of that what you will!)
Basically they are a sole and two bits of cord entwined and woven together, then finished with a tie and voila …with a bit of innovative magic you have a unisex shoe that I think will look great on both men and women next summer.
It’s not all showy gimmick though, and within the sole there is some serious design. The UNEEK features an anatomical microfiber footbed meaning it is moulded to the foots shape and the inside is also textured, meaning that as your foot warms up you won’t slip and slide around. The shoe also has a soft microfiber heel back for added comfort.
The lightweight PU midsole delivers top-notch durability next to Keens famed comfort and finally rubber pods and razor siping on the outsole provide protection and traction in high-wear areas.
This shoe weighs a miniscule 277 grams! Perfect for slinging into a backpack for a post hike shoe option.
The UNEEK had a limited launch this year, so you may well spot a few pairs out and about, but will launch properly in Spring/Summer 2015, for which they will be releasing a rainbow of 14 different colour ways.
I know I’ll be front of the queue when they hit the shops next year…I just need to decide what colour!

ps: A part of the promotion we were given our own two cords and told to go off and be creative, I’ve left that up to GWA’s Ed, so watch this space..and the hashtag #UNEEK
