What converted me to Nordic Walking is that it improved my walking – I get out and about on two feet a lot – having a dog tends to do that. I’ve always been a fast walker but it transpires that I’ve not been very efficient and my posture tends to make people wince. Adding these poles has straightened my back, and my stride and gait have improved no end and going up hills is now child’s play!

Komperdell – C3 Carbon Compact poles

These Komperdell poles are an excellent product with some nice features. The added orange flash stickers on the upper section make the poles easy to spot if you stop for a break and drop them down into some long grass … I have spent 15 minutes looking for a disguised lost pole in the past, but these would stand out a treat. Added to this the manufacturers have added the signatures of the world’s leading mountaineers to the middle section of the pole – an endorsement I assume, but a nice touch only visible when the middle section is extended.

Nikwax – Polar Proof

What’s noticeable about running a garment treated with Polar Proof under a tap is the lack of small drops which grab on to the pile, and of course the way that the stream of water flows off like it is being repelled somehow. I compared this to an older fleece garment which I own and the main difference is those small dots of water which stay on the fabric and in some places cause a wetting-out (where they sink in)
